Calculate your ideal weight using different validated scientific formulas.

What is ideal weight?

Ideal weight is an estimate of the weight associated with good health for a given height and sex. It is a reference range rather than an exact target, and should be interpreted alongside body composition, muscle mass and other health indicators.

How is it calculated?

There is no single universally accepted formula for calculating ideal body weight. The three equations most commonly used in medical literature are the Devine formula (1974), originally developed for drug dosing and the most frequently cited in clinical contexts; the Robinson formula (1983), an empirical adjustment of Devineโ€™s; and the Miller formula (1983), which tends to yield more conservative values. This calculator shows the average of the three results because ideal weight is a range, not a single value.

โš ๏ธ Limitations

The concept of 'ideal weight' has important limitations: it does not account for body composition, muscle mass, age, or fat distribution. Two people of the same height can have very different healthy weights. Use it as a general reference, not as a clinical target.

FAQ

Ideal weight formulas provide a reference range. Healthy weight considers body composition, lifestyle and individual health markers beyond just a number.
Each formula was derived from different population studies and methodologies. The average of all three provides a more balanced estimate.
Focus on gradual, sustainable changes. A rate of 0.5 kg/week is evidence-based and preserves muscle mass.
Devine, Robinson and Miller were developed primarily for adults aged 18โ€“65. For older adults or children, consult a healthcare professional.
