Ideal Weight Calculator

Calculate your ideal weight using different validated scientific formulas.

What is ideal weight?

Ideal weight is an estimate of the weight associated with good health for a given height and sex. It is a reference range rather than an exact target, and should be interpreted alongside body composition, muscle mass and other health indicators.

How is it calculated?

Three validated clinical formulas are used: Devine (1974), most widely used in clinical settings; Robinson (1983); and Miller (1983). All are based on height in inches above 5 feet. The calculator shows the average of the three as the primary result.

Formula

Devine (men): IBW = 50 + 2.3 ร— (height_in โˆ’ 60) Devine (women): IBW = 45.5 + 2.3 ร— (height_in โˆ’ 60)

โš ๏ธ Limitations

These formulas do not account for body frame, muscle mass, ethnicity or age. A person with high muscle mass may exceed the range without excess fat. Use alongside BMI and body fat percentage.

FAQ

Ideal weight formulas provide a reference range. Healthy weight considers body composition, lifestyle and individual health markers beyond just a number.
Each formula was derived from different population studies and methodologies. The average of all three provides a more balanced estimate.
Focus on gradual, sustainable changes. A rate of 0.5 kg/week is evidence-based and preserves muscle mass.
Devine, Robinson and Miller were developed primarily for adults aged 18โ€“65. For older adults or children, consult a healthcare professional.
