Pace / Speed / Time

Calculate running pace, speed and finish time for any distance.

What is running pace?

Pace is the time it takes to cover one kilometre. It is the standard reference in running for planning workouts and predicting race times at any distance.

How is it calculated?

Pace (s/km) = Total time (s) รท Distance (km). Speed (km/h) = 3600 รท Pace (s/km). Total time = Pace ร— Distance.

Formula

Pace = Time รท Distance ยท Speed = 3600 รท Pace ยท Time = Pace ร— Distance

โš ๏ธ Limitations

Splits assume constant pace. In real running, terrain, elevation, wind and fatigue affect pace.

FAQ

For beginners, 6โ€“7 min/km is a reasonable goal. Advanced runners go below 4 min/km.
With interval training (HIIT), threshold runs and Zone 2 aerobic base building.
3600 รท 300 = 12 km/h.
You can calculate for any distance: 1K, 5K, 10K, 21K (half marathon) and 42.195K (marathon).
